UNESCO is organizing an event titled 'The role of artificial intelligence in museums' on November 1, 2025, on the sidelines of its 43rd General Conference in Samarkand, Uzbekistan.

Guided by the MONDIACULT 2022 Declaration, the 2015 Recommendation concerning the Protection and Promotion of Museums and Collections, their Diversity and their Role in Society, and the 2021 Recommendation on the Ethics of Artificial Intelligence, this international dialogue will explore the transformative role of artificial intelligence in museum practice, with a focus on ethical governance, sustainability, diversity, inclusion, and innovation.

By bringing together both specialized AI developers and museum leaders, this dialogue will serve as a platform for critical discussions and exchanges. It will showcase new AI technologies and explore how AI is transforming the way museums conduct research, collect, conserve, interpret, and exhibit tangible and intangible heritage. It will also examine how AI can foster diversity and sustainability and encourage communities to engage in education, reflection, enjoyment, and knowledge sharing.
