Does the question of the identity of a language model make sense? Due to their technological nature, one might be tempted to answer negatively. However, since the production of discourse is intrinsically socially situated, the question of the identity of language models has a certain legitimacy. We will therefore focus on precisely defining the contours of this question and exploring the epistemological consequences that result from it.
Jean-Philippe Magué is a lecturer at the ENS de Lyon. Doctor of Cognitive Sciences, Deputy Director of the Education and Digital Humanities Department of the ENS de Lyon, Deputy Director of the IXXI, Rhone-Alpes Institute of Complex Systems, his work is at the intersection of Linguistics, Computer Science, Digital Humanities and Complex Systems Science.
