Researchers and Engineers Meet – 7th Edition
Objectives
The “Researchers and Engineers Meet” organized by Phimeca aims to stimulate the creativity of researchers and engineers in solving problems that combine numerical simulation and data analysis. The event also encourages the transfer of knowledge and technology between scientific communities. It is free and open to everyone.
Maths and the Brain
The human brain is a complex, dynamic system that remains largely mysterious. Understanding it today involves a wide mathematical toolkit drawn from cognitive science, neuroscience, psychology, artificial intelligence, and engineering: differential equations to model neuronal activity, graphs to map brain connections, and statistics and machine learning to analyze behavioral or electroencephalographic data.
In this edition, we will explore how mathematics can enhance our understanding of the brain and human functioning, and how, in turn, the challenges of this field drive methodological innovation. From “first-principles” models to big data analysis, from models of brain learning to hybrid systems combining biology, cognition, and algorithms, the range of approaches is vast — and constantly expanding.
Which mathematical models are the most promising for simulating or decoding brain mechanisms? Can biology inspire improvements in artificial intelligence algorithms? What recent advances shed light on personality, decision-making, or cognitive dynamics?
Researchers and practitioners will share their work at the intersection of living systems, data, and mathematics, offering a map of a rapidly evolving field that sits at the crossroads of thought and computation.
