Artificial intelligence techniques are evolving rapidly and have a direct impact on our daily lives: search engines, recommendation systems, medical imaging, ChatGPT, Mistral and now DeepSeek.
This course, taught by experts in artificial intelligence, is aimed at non-specialists.
This course will give you a better understanding of how ChatGPT works and its limitations. We will decipher the underlying mechanics of artificial intelligence systems with regard to different applications (text or image generation, information retrieval, translation systems, conversational systems, etc.).
Once the functional aspect has been explained, the challenge will be to take a step back from the uses of these algorithms, in particular Chatbots such as ChatGPT and DeepSeek, to understand the opportunities and risks linked to the introduction of these new technologies into society.
PROGRAM
1. History of AI techniques: this science is new (70 years old) and has been constantly evolving since its creation.
2. Technical basics of machine learning: deciphering how these algorithms work, putting into perspective the processing of tabular and semantic data (text, image).
3. Recent developments in deep learning: how representation learning has profoundly transformed the classification, segmentation and analysis of textual documents.
4. Generative AI and ChatGPT: presentation of the latest architectures capable of generating text and images, detailed description of instructGPT, the basic model of ChatGPT, Mistral and DeepSeek.
5. Algorithm strengths and weaknesses, recent performance developments: the above technical fundamentals enable an informed analysis of the strengths and weaknesses of these approaches, distinguishing between reasonable use cases and what is now science fiction.
6. Risks, opportunities and regulation: we will review past and future initiatives to regulate AI approaches, and discuss how they can be adapted to the risks involved.
