Today, this false content, generally more attractive than the real thing, spreads virally on the Internet, thanks to the business models of large digital platforms, whose objective is to maximize advertising revenue by capturing the attention of Internet users. Ranked this year as the number one short-term global systemic risk according to the World Economic Forum, this trend constitutes a real threat to the honesty of information and therefore to democracy.
In this report, the Academy of Technologies warns of the increasing danger due to the rise of generative AI and highlights the potential of curative AI to combat disinformation. Based on their analysis, they propose six targeted recommendations aimed at strengthening our resilience to fake news and preserving the credibility of information.
