Through the active participation of SCAI in several events of the week for action on AI, Sorbonne University confirms its position as a key player in reflections and innovations around artificial intelligence. A look back at an active presence, between scientific issues, ethical challenges and strategic perspectives.
On January 9, 2025, SCAI launched a series of conferences on responsible AI with a first session devoted to the links between generative AI and disinformation. This event labeled by the Global Summit for Action on AI explored the implications of this technology in the dissemination of false information.
This conference opened the debate on the challenges related to the detection and regulation of content generated by AI, particularly in the face of deepfakes and online disinformation campaigns.
On February 6 and 7, Sorbonne University participated, as part of the week for action on AI, in the AI, Science and Society conference, organized by the Institut Polytechnique de Paris. This leading conference brought together decision-makers, industrialists and renowned experts such as Yann LeCun and Philippe Aghion, to explore the impact of AI on science and society. Several projects carried out within SCAI were presented, including:
In parallel, Sorbonne University played a key role in discussions on regulating AI-related risks, notably through the international conference organized at the OECD on February 6 and 7 at the initiative of CeSIA (Centre for AI Safety). This event brought together high-level researchers, including Turing and Nobel Prize winners, as well as representatives of the new AI safety institutes in the United Kingdom and the European Union, as well as specialists in AI governance.
Finally, on February 10, Gérard Biau, Director of SCAI, was invited to the Grand Palais for the highly anticipated AI Action Summit, which aims to collectively establish the scientific foundations, solutions and standards for more sustainable AI in the service of collective progress and the general interest.
On April 1, Sorbonne University will take a new step with the official launch of the SCAI - PostGenAI@Paris cluster. This ambitious initiative aims to become a global hub for post-generative AI and will bring together more than 60 academic and industrial partners. "We want to be a key player in scientific and technical research while participating in defining an informed use of these new technologies. To do this, we aim to develop innovative solutions while training future AI experts at all levels, from undergraduate to doctorate, without forgetting lifelong learning. We also want to democratize AI education,” recalls Gérard Biau, Director of SCAI.
With this strong involvement during the week for Action on AI, Sorbonne University confirms its role as a leader in research, training and reflection on artificial intelligence. Whether it is to combat disinformation, optimize clinical trials or regulate the risks associated with AI, the university, through SCAI, is establishing itself as a key player in debates on AI.
