We are honored to welcome Professor Hal Daumé III, who will be joining us at Sorbonne University for the academic year 2024-2025. Based in the offices of SCAI (Sorbonne Center for Artificial Intelligence), Professor Daumé will bring his extensive expertise in natural language processing, machine learning, and AI ethics to enrich our academic community.
Hal Daumé III holds the prestigious position of Volpi-Cupal Professor of Computer Science and Language Science at the University of Maryland (UMD), where he leads cutting-edge research at the AI Interdisciplinary Institute at Maryland (AIM) and the Institute for Trustworthy AI in Law & Society (TRAILS). His work focuses on advancing machine learning models that are both interactive and ethically sound, seeking ways to develop systems that learn naturally from human interactions while minimizing societal harms.
Throughout his stay at Sorbonne, Hal will engage with faculty, students, and researchers, contributing to ongoing discussions on AI and its societal impacts. His research interests align closely with the themes of our AI initiatives, especially in the fields of human-AI interaction, fairness in machine learning, and generative AI.
We are excited to benefit from his contributions and look forward to collaborative opportunities throughout the year.
