When artificial intelligence meets Molière: "L'Astrologue ou les Faux Présages"
On 5 May 2026, SCAI had the honour of attending the world premiere of "L'Astrologue ou les Faux Présages" — a play written in collaboration with artificial intelligence — performed in the exceptional setting of the Opéra Royal du Château de Versailles.
This singular project was born from a meeting between two actors deeply engaged in exploring the boundaries between technology and creation: Obvious Art, a pioneering collective in generative art, and the Théâtre Molière Sorbonne company of Sorbonne Université, renowned for the rigour and ambition of its artistic practice.
Can AI write in the style of Molière? That was the bold wager at the heart of this project — and the answer, delivered from the stage of Versailles, was well worth witnessing.
A dialogue between art and science
Beyond the technical achievement, "L'Astrologue ou les Faux Présages" illuminates a question central to our work: under what conditions can artificial intelligence contribute responsibly and meaningfully to fields as demanding as artistic creation and scientific research?
The play stands as a testament to the importance of rigorous collaborative practice and sustained critical vigilance in the use of AI tools. The work was not produced by the machine alone — it is the result of a continuous dialogue between artists and technology, each bringing what the other cannot.
Creation and innovation: a necessary collaboration
For SCAI, this evening was far more than a cultural milestone. It reinforced a deep conviction: projects that dare to bring together artistic disciplines and cutting-edge technology — without sacrificing one to the other, without conceding to the path of least resistance — are those that open genuinely new horizons, for creators and researchers alike.
The most fruitful collaborations are those that make no compromise on standards. This is precisely what Obvious Art and the Théâtre Molière Sorbonne demonstrated, bringing this project to one of France's most emblematic stages.
