Opinion - From AI development to AI for development
Coinciding with the AI Action Summit, two experts remind us how important it is for this tool to serve development, rather than private interests.
In the space of a few months, artificial intelligence (AI), and generative AI in particular, has become omnipresent in our private lives and at work, in both business and academia, in the West as well as the East and affecting the Global North and Global South in equal measure. This is the context in which the AI Action Summit was held in Paris from 6 to 11 February 2025, in the aim of strengthening international efforts to ensure AI serves the general interest. At a time when the United States is calling its development aid programme into question, we wish to propose a cross-perspective on the challenge of an approach in favour of AI for development.
