Delacroix Numérique – From Brush to Pixel

At the heart of the French National Assembly, a unique digital humanities project brings together art history, 3D modeling, and artificial intelligence to explore and preserve the monumental ceiling painted by Eugène Delacroix.

Led by Sorbonne University in partnership with the French National Assembly and supported by the Schmidt Foundation, the Delacroix Numérique project aims to:

• Capture the ceiling in ultra high-resolution (10,000+ images)
• Develop an immersive virtual tour
• Use AI to distinguish Delacroix’s hand from his assistants’
• Analyze pigments and materials through non-invasive techniques
• Digitally reconstruct lost works using generative AI
• Mine Delacroix’s correspondence for new insights
