[Call for Applications] Appointment of an Expert Panel for the United Nations Environment Programme

Research fields covered by the call for applications:

  • (i) Hydrology/Geohydrology.

  • (ii) Emerging technologies such as geoengineering and carbon capture, use and storage.

  • (iii) Modelling: Integrated environmental and socioeconomic modelling and modelling of complex environmental datasets.

  • (iv) Energy alternatives, including hydrogen and nuclear technologies.

  • (v) Digital transformation: Environmental impacts of artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics.

  • (vi) Extractive Industries: Mining and impacts, critical minerals and metals, circularity and technical aspects of their re-use and recycling.

  • (vii) Climate and Earth Sciences: Palaeoclimatology, climate modelling, computational science, and critical earth system disruptions.

  • (viii) Marine Sciences: Marine Biogeochemistry.

  • (ix) Advanced Engineering: Material science, nuclear engineering, and reactor physics.

  • (x) Emerging Technologies: Carbon capture, storage, and removal technologies (including nature-based approaches).

Date: Member States will select the experts nominated for the panel and must submit their brief to the UNEP by July 31, 2026. Expert applications must therefore be submitted to us no later than July 20, 2026, at [email protected].

Requirement (UNEP letter): "Preference is given to candidates with a strong publication record and active engagement in their field over the past 5 to 10 years. Candidates should generally hold a Master's or PhD degree."

Note: Once nominated to the Expert Panel, your participation in the Panel's activities, initiatives, or programs is subject to your consent.
